Zero was born in Uzu village located in Whirlpool Country. Since Hidden Whirling Tides was destroyed the Akiyama clan had been rebuilding the village. When Zero was eleven a group of bandits came to Uzu village and killed every man, women and child, all except for Zero. When Zero saw his mother cut down by one of the bandits his eyes turned red with anger and the bandit knew this was the Akiyama Kekkei Genkai. He easily knocked Zero out and the bandits took him along with anything valuable in the village.

When Zero woke up his hands were tied and he was being carried by a large man. "So your finally awake huh? Good. Cause now you can walk, you were getting heavy." The man set Zero down and told him if he didn't walk with them that his leader might kill him. Zero did as he was told and they traveled for several days and nights. When Zero finally asked what had happened to his family and where he was the man said, "Every man, woman and child of your clan was killed...I'm sorry. You were spared because you have the Kekkei Genkai and my leader wants to make you into one of his followers. To answer your second question we are somewhere in the Fire Country."

Many days passed as they continued on there journey. One night a group of Shinobi wearing animal masks appeared out of nowhere and killed every bandit while Zero was hiding in a tent. One of the Shinobi said, "Come on out, we know your there." Zero steped out of the tent and a blade was at his throat. Again his eyes went red as he was ready to fight for his life. "Stop. He is only a child. Look at his eyes, he has the Red Eye Kekkei Genkai. Boy what is your name?" The blade at his throat was removed and placed back into it's sheath as he replied, "Zero Akiyama." Zero let his eyes return to normal as the woman who had her sword to his throat a few moments ago said, "Akiyama? So he is from the Akiyama Clan and has inherited there Kekkei Genkai. Lets take him back to the village, the Hokage is going to want to speak with him."

The woman cut the rope that had been binding his wrists and picked Zero up onto her shoulder. The Shinobi all took off and within moments they had arrived at Konoha. Zero was taken to the Hokage's office where he waited, with the woman who had carried him, for a few minutes. When the door opened a man wearing a full length robe and a triangle hat walked in and said, "So you must be Zero of the Akiyama clan. Since you are not part of my village I must send you back to your village in the morning." Zero interrupted the Hokage and said, "Forgive me but I have no home now. My father died before I was born and my mother died trying to protect me from the men who took me." The Hokage thought for a moment before saying, "Then I will make you a citizen of Konoha and if you like we can also enroll you into the Academy. How does that sound?"

Zero looked at the Hokage and said, "Thank you but what is the Academy?" The woman answered, "Allow me to answer that. Children are trained at the Academy to become ninja." Zero looked at the woman and said, "Ninja? Are you a ninja?" To this she replied, "Yes, I'm an ANBU ninja. Now before you ask ANBU are among the best ninja in the village, next to the legendary Sannin and the Hokage." Zero thought about everything that he had just heard and about the Hokage's offer and said, "If becoming a ninja I can be a hero then I'll do it."

The Hokage laughed when Zero said he wanted to be a hero. "Very well child. I will make the arrangements immediately and you will start class next week when the new semester begins. If you work hard you may yet become a hero."

The Hokage told the ANBU member to take him to an apartment and have them give him a room. He then followed the woman out of the Hokage's office and through the streets of Konoha until they reached an apartment building. Upon hearing that the Hokage requested a room for the child the apartment manager lead the boy up a flight of stairs to a room on the top floor and opened the door for him. Once the door was open the manager handed Zero the keys and went back down stairs to her office. After looking the room over for a minute or two Zero laid down on the bed and fell asleep.

When Zero awoke he saw a young girl sitting across the room. "Who are you and why are you here." The girl looked up at him and said, "My name is Chiso and I am a Chunin. I am here because the Hokage gave me a mission. I am to show you around town and to give you this." She threw Zero a small bag which he catches and opens up to find 300 Ryo. "What is this for?" She replied, "I guess so you can buy things. It is a gift from the Hokage to show that he is sorry for what happened to you and your family. He also wants you to know that your rent for this room will be taken care of until you become a Genin. Shall we get going. I'll be outside while you get dressed." Chiso stood up and left the apartment and waited by the door.

Zero got up and dressed and the two of them walked around town. Chiso showed Zero where he would buy his ninja gear, the Ramen shop, as well as several other stores around town. Zero asked about the faces on the side of the mountain and Chiso said, "Those are the faces of our past Hokage. They are Shodai Hokage, Nidaime Hokage brother to the first, Sandaime Hokage, Yondaime Hokage on of the most talented, Godaime Hokage, Rokudaime Hokage, and the one that is still being put up is our current Nanadaime Hokage." Zero listened as she told him about each Hokage and asked, "Do they not have names?" Chiso laughed and replied, "Hmph, they do have names but when you become a Kage you forfeit your name and are only known as Kage." Zero thought for a second and then it made since. As protector of the village giving up your name is a good way to keep those in your family from being held hostage and used against you.

As they walked along they came to the bookstore and Zero whent inside with Chiso following him. He saw many good books but one caught his eye. It was a tan colored book sitting behind glass titled, LOVELESS. Zero asked the clerk about the book and was told that the book was fairly expensive and rare being the last and only remaining copy. Zero told the clerk that he wanted to buy the book. Chiso couldn't believe that he was going to spend his money buying a book rather than using it to buy ninja gear or food. Zero looked at her and said, "I am the last of my clan and this book is the last of its kind." Chiso smiled and understood what he meant. As the clerk was about to take the 300 ryo that Zero had Chiso said that she would pay some of the cost for the book herself so Zero wouldn't spend all of his money on the book. Chiso paid 200 ryo and Zero payed only 100 ryo for the book. Zero thanked Chiso by taking her to the Ramen shop and buying her dinner.

Over the next few years Zero read the story of LOVELESS and memorized it as well as going to the Academy and passing his classes. Three years have passed since that faitful night that brought him to Konoha and Zero is about to take the Academy exam to graduate to Genin. From the money that he received the day he met Chiso and bought the book he still has 100 ryo.
